Willow_Street_Yoga_13_websize.jpg

Tai Chi is a gentle, low-impact exercise that originated in China as a martial art. It involves a series of slow, controlled movements and postures, along with deep breathing and a meditative state of mind. Tai Chi is often called "meditation in motion" because it is designed to harmonize the body, mind, and energy levels. It can help with a variety of health concerns, including flexibility and strength, balance and coordination, stress and anxiety, depression, and pain relief.

Workshop participants experience introductory basics as well as advanced movements and exercises in order to gain a full understanding of Tai Chi’s philosophy so that they can begin to incorporate it into their everyday wellness practice.

In this workshop, experienced and beginning students learn Tai Chi’s four core mental health benefits: calming, grounding, letting go, and creating. Tai Chi’s gentle, low impact mind and body exercises incorporate graceful, relaxing movements that help generate physical and mental balance. Each session has a different focus and provides practical tools for your everyday life:

The inner teacher who dwells in each of our hearts holds profound wisdom.  Around the globe, the heart is also known as an entry point for transformation.

A resilient heart is a heart that does not turn away from what is happening internally or externally. It is a heart that can experience and allow both the greatest beauty and surf the most intense challenges.  Throughout history, scribes have taught how to cultivate a resilient heart through the doorway of suffering.

In this hybrid series, we will tap into the deep wells of resilience within our own hearts through breathing practices, meditation, somatic and yogic movement, guided visualization, deep listening, journaling, and yogic philosophy.

Expect to deepen your intuition, access the strength and supportive energy inherent in your own aliveness, and find a more expansive relationship to the state of your heart no matter where it is in the present moment. â€‹Everybody is welcome. Please bring a journal.

Dates (each workshop will be from 8am - 9am ET):

  • Saturday, 11/29

  • Saturday, 12/6

  • Saturday 12/13

  • Saturday, 12/20 â€‹â€‹

Winter Warmer with James Foulkes

Saturday, December 13th | 4:00 pm - 7:00 pm EST | In-Studio | Cost: $60

During the winter months our energies tend to naturally be drawn inwards as nature becomes still and the cold weather and long nights draw in. But something deeper is at work.

The water energy of winter is an expression of maximum Yin and responsiveness. We will balance the Yin nature of the gentle cleansing Yoga stretches and breathwork with complementary Yang Qi Gong practices, whilst using meditation, to support the sustaining of our energetic field through the colder months working with the active kidney and bladder energy.

This time is also one of incubating ideas and intentions to manifest in the spring. We will establish multi-layered intentions to blossom in the forthcoming year by peering into the shadows of Winter through journeying.

Four Seasons of Forest Bathing

with Susan West Montgomery

Saturday, December 20th | 3:00pm - 4:30pm EST | Rock Creek Park | $40

Follow the Wheel of the Year with seasonal forest bathing sessions in Rock Creek Park!

Shinrin-yoku, or forest bathing, is a Japanese wellness practice that helps individuals access the healing properties of nature.

These can be especially powerful during the times of transition offered by the changing seasons. Each walk will follow a different route, but all will allow us to experience this familiar landscape at
different times of the year.

You will be invited to slow down, to be curious, and to touch, smell, hear, and see nature more fully. The walks will not be strenuous but requires the ability to walk a mile or so on uneven surfaces.
