The benefits of yoga practice in helping people affected by trauma can be tremendous, and they are becoming better researched and documented. It is also key that we steer clear of stereotypes that might keep a student away from practice. Being trauma-informed and welcoming to a diversity of students is a best practice for everyone working with the public, not just “mental health” or “recovery yoga” teachers. It is important to use the correct language and to avoid statements that could be triggering.
