WSYC 2010 Yoga Teacher Training

Important Forms

Our Vision

The art of teaching is a yoga in itself, requiring sensitivity, compassion, and understanding, as well as practice and technical knowledge. To be an effective teacher, one must convey the essence of yoga which can only come from the heart, leading to transformation and eventual awakening to our true nature.

A teacher not only knows the principles of alignment and how to articulate them effectively, but must transmit that alchemical agent that captures the essence of yoga. That agent is love. Our program will allow students to be themselves, for only then can we communicate our own playful expression of the heart naturally and with ease.

Our training is based on the Anusara® yoga system, developed by John Friend. "Anusara" means "to be in the Divine flow, or to move from the heart." Using this open-hearted and celebratory method of teaching, in conjunction with precise bio-mechanical principles of alignment, students can connect with their own innate joy and goodness.

Our Faculty

suzie hurley
Suzie Hurley is the Director of Willow Street Yoga Center's Teacher Training Program, and will be the main teacher. We may have other Certified Anusara® yoga teachers for segments of the program.

Suzie Hurley (E-RYT 500) is the Founder and Director of Willow Street Yoga Center, the largest Anusara® yoga center in the US. She has been teaching yoga since 1981 and has studied with John Friend since 1994. Suzie became one of Anusara® yoga's earliest certified teachers in 1999. Her 31 years of yoga practice also include 16 years of Iyengar study and certification as an Advanced 500-hour Kripalu teacher. She is also a certified Phoenix Rising practitioner and a former member of their Teacher Training faculty. Suzie is known for the joy, humor, warmth, and enthusiasm she brings to training teachers. With passion and inspiration, she creates a safe and sacred space for authentic transformation from students of yoga to teachers of yoga. Over the years, Suzie has trained many who have gone on to make their own high marks as teachers and further pass on the gift of yoga to the world.

Our Program

WSYC's Teacher Training is a nine-month, 108-hour program that meets for 12 hours per weekend from January to October. In combination with our 108-hour Anusara® Yoga Immersion program, it is approved by Yoga Alliance at the 200-hour level for national certification. All hours can be applied toward certification in Anusara® yoga with John Friend. Enrollment is limited to 30 students.

The emphasis of this program is learning to teach the poses in the Anusara® yoga method, which includes heart-oriented language and Universal Principles of Alignment. It is a comprehensive training for Anusara® yoga teachers to fine-tune their teaching skills and understanding, and for experienced students who want to pursue teaching. The YTT prepares participants to teach over 60 fundamental poses. Each weekend focuses on a specific group of poses, analyzing in-depth the art of teaching these poses safely and effectively.
