Yoga Therapy for Heart Disease & COPD

Our immune system is our innate capacity and wisdom to maintain equilibrium, restore health, and rejuvenate. A variety of stressors – physical and psychosocial, internal and external – can impact and impede our capacity for self-healing.

This gentle workshop will help you tap into and boost your body’s and mind’s own healing powers and support the parasympathetic nervous system, and is geared for adults facing challenges due to all stages (in or out of treatment) of heart disease, heart conditions, and chronic-obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), as well as caregivers.

Our emphasis will be on reducing the affects of stress in the body-mind, boosting relaxation, improving efficient breathing, alleviating side effects of symptoms and treatment, exploring heart-rate variability, and restoring vitality. We will practice awareness, gentle postures (on chairs or on the floor), breathing exercises, deep relaxation, guided imagery, meditation, and skillful application of yoga in our daily lives. Enjoy renewal from the inside out!

No previous yoga experience required. In Takoma Park.

“Yoga therapy is a self-empowering process, where the care-seeker, with the help of the Yoga therapist, implements a personalized and evolving Yoga practice, that not only addresses the illness in a multi-dimensional manner, but also aims to alleviate his/her suffering in a progressive, non-invasive and complementary manner. Yoga therapy can not only be preventative or curative, but also serve a means to manage the illness, and facilitate healing in the person at all levels.”
